Mount Langi Ghiran
Grampians , Victoria
Winery Overview
Located 190km West of Melbourne, Victoria against the stunning backdrop of the Grampians mountain range, Mount Langi Ghiran is an iconic cool climate wine producer, most famous for the Langi Shiraz.
Set at the base of its namesake Mount Langi Ghiran – Aboriginal for home of the yellow tailed black cockatoo – the site is truly unique and casts its spell on all who visit it. The first vines were planted on the property in the late 1800s at the site which is now our ‘Contour Block’, but it’s when the Fratin family replanted in 1969 that Mount Langi Ghiran really came to be.
One of the most isolated and unique vineyards in Australian viticulture, the raw elements of soil, climate vines combine to create one of Australia’s most distinctive flavours of Mount Langi Ghiran wines.
With 70 hectares under vine, the Mount Langi Ghiran vineyard is truly unique with the ‘Old Block’ producing one of Australia’s most distinctive and distinguished wines, the Langi Shiraz. Predominately red grapes with Shiraz being the dominate variety, other varieties planted include Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Sangiovese, Barbera, Grenache, Pinot Gris, Riesling, Chardonnay and Viognier.
The weathered granite cliff face and sedimentary soils, the cold prevailing winds forming off the Southern Ocean and the historic vine stock all play a critical role in producing the distinctive flavours of Mount Langi Ghiran wines.

Winemaker Bio
Winemaker Adam Louder was born and bred in the Grampians with deep ties to Mount Langi Ghiran starting his career here in 1998 as a young cellar hand under Trevor Mast - one of the most iconic figures of cool climate winemaking. Adam worked in wineries across the Pyrenees, Margaret River (including our sister winery Xanadu), Bordeaux and Napa Valley before returning to Langi in 2016 with 32 harvests under his belt.
Drawn back to the relaxed lifestyle of the region along with his love of Grampians Shiraz he says “it’s hard to deny how unique the site of Langi actually is. Not only do we have one of the longest growing seasons which adds to the complexity; the nature and the landscape are amazing and we have a strong united team all aiming to make some of the best wines in the country.”
